Watch this legendary Advaita (non-dualist) Guru speak in this vintage video. He was visited in Mumbai by thousands of westerners seeking answers. Many of his talks have since been translated and published, including the 70s classic I Am That.
One of his disciples, Ramesh Balsekar, still teaches in the tradition of The Maharaj in Mumbai. He has also published a number of works about the master since his death in 1981.
His method has often been referred to as The Natural Yoga, because it consists of little more than living a happy life and meditating on the source of consciousness whenever possible. Maharaj used the traditional method Advaita Vedantan masters have taught for centuries—meditating and reflecting on the sacred mantra I Am (Ahamn), until its meaning is revelaed as pure consciousness.
Along with fellow Advaita master, Ramana Maharshi, he is widely recognized as one of the greatest yoga masters of the 20th century. Watch more video of Nisargadatta Maharaj and read texts from a variety of his talks at the linx below....
Ramana Maharshi is widely recognized as one of the greatest gurus of modern times. He taught by example at his ashram near the sacred city of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, but left little writing as a legacy. Nan Yar is one of the few written records of his experience. It is one of the most clear & concise expositions on enlightenment since the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in the 1st century AD. Read the best translation of it at this link.
