Inherent Vice

Inherent Vice

Paul Thomas Anderson

An excellent but complicated film adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's novel about the end of the hippies and the beginning of The New World Order. Larry 'Doc' Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) is a hippy PI who lives on information, dope and pizza. His counterpart at LAPD—Codename: Bigfoot—is a nuerotic cop played by Josh Brolin, who should easily have won an oscar for his performance. The two wind their way thru a heroin-addicted LA hippy scene thats on its last leg, solving a crime or two along the way. There are some classic scenes in this film. And the acting and film making are excellent, as is to be expected from a PT Anderson film. But it may be a little long and complex for some audiences...
