Some countries have even asked their citizens not to eat meat at least one day a week. Its not so hard once you learn how to get the nutrients you usually get from meat elsewhere. It saves tons of water and energy. And it is obviously much healthier to eat more vegetables. Do it once and a while to start, and then go veg if you like it. Many people report feeling better and having more energy after becoming vegetarians...
Cut Down on Junk Food
Dont use pre-packaged, processed food any more than you have to. We are all used to fast food, 7-11 and the munchies. Breaking bad eating patterns can be hard. But your gonna give up all the dorritos & big macs one day either way—by choice or by death. Best start now with a bit of moderation that will help you slowly break some of the bad habits most of us have developed, and save tons of paper, water and plastic packaging at the same time...
Unplug Unused Appliances
All your plugged-in appliances seep energy from your power grid and cost you a few pennies a day, which slowly adds up to a fair savings for you and a massive savings for the environment if everyone does it—especially things like washing machines, toasters and other items you dont use every day...
Turn Out The Lights!
Turn off the TV, computer & stereo while you're at it. What do people think electrical lights & appliances run on anyway—hay? Of course, most electrical plants are powered by fossil-fuels like coal and oil. The avg. American burns as much CO2 from appliances in the home as they do in their cars each day. You dont need all that light anyway. You're just used to it. But if you turn off all lights and appliances when you dont really need them, I guarantee you're power bill will reflect the difference..
